Recap | October 23 " The Future is You" & networking

Updated: Dec 10, 2020

On October 23, 2020, "Digital 20/20: Shape the Future of Our New Remote Economy" was held virtually on the island of VirBELA. Guests (in their avatar form) made their way to the Auditorium to join the first event: The Canadian Digital Influencers Award.

The Canadian Digital Influencer Awards was co-hosted by Digital One Asset, iCashRewards, FMA Entertainment and Lacala Media and produced by FMA Entertainment. The ceremony was hosted by Natalie Langston.

After sharing the achievements of the CDIA winners, guests had a coffee break while they made their way to the "Digital 20/20: The Future is You!" (Part 1) event in the Conference Hall.

The coffee break in the Conference Hall had an art display created by Rockefeller Jr .and New York Chinese artist Caojun. They will host a virtual art exhibition here in November.

"Digital 20/20: The Future is You!" (Part 1) was opened by Min Kuang, the founder of Digital One Asset Corp., a blockchain & AI-focused investment and marketing solution provider for consumer loyalty, fintech and digital marketing.

She shared her story about how the pandemic affected her work and how she reinvented her work and company to adapt to the new normal. She also shared 5 Business Best Practices during Covid Crisis she learned from an inspiring Zoom chat with Simon Sinek, author and guest on TED talks.

  1. Teach others what you are learning. (Teach it to someone else, and you've really learned it.)

  2. Get to your desk before 8:30 am. Get something done before 9.

  3. Don't get it perfect, get it done. Think fast, cheap, agile.

  4. Do quick "Zoom scrums" where you check in with team members: 15 minutes or less.

  5. Spend 10% of your time helping others.

Up to now, her company has trained over 189 students to learn how to use online and virtual immersive tech such as VirBELA. She believes the world of AI, VR, Robotics and digital marketing will drive the next wave of innovation and help us all to reinvent, hence the tagline "The Future is You". This is a first of its kind, 3-month long startup experience that aims to virtually find and connect innovators from around the world. She hopes that we can all grow together in this new era of working remotely online and virtually, by using exciting new tools and platforms to allow us to quickly adapt, shift and deploy in this new normal. Together, we can dive into this virtual 3D world today and for our future.

The first keynote was delivered by UBC Professor Chris Zhang, Founder of Sager Education Inc., and Chairman of Canada Youth Robotics Club. He holds Post-Doctoral in electrical and electronics from UBC, with over 25 years of education & research in Math, STEM, Artificial Intelligence (AI), computational geometry and computer vision.

He shared with the audience the work he does with the Canada Youth Robotics Club. Highlighting the BotBall robotics engineering challenge contest, the RoboRAVE team competition (sponsored by Intel Corporation), STEM for Girls and the work they do with films such as Pacific Rim by Universal Studios.

The second keynote was delivered by Kevin Wang, a young entrepreneur, inventor and a graduate from UBC in Biomedical Engineering. He is the founder of Lilium Robotics and he shared with us his plan to bring the next generation human android to market. Once completed, he will have created the lightest android weighing only 6kg.

After the keynote presentations, guests participated in a Speed Networking Chat in table groups. Each table had a leader to facilitate group introductions and story sharing in the Covid era. Two of the tables were led by students Ali Mazhari, studying Business Administration from Simon Fraser University and Fernanda Estrada, studying MBA at UCW.

After the table chat, guests began to mingle and chat in private blue circles with one another.

The event concluded with closing remarks from Lacala Media 老拉视界 thanking guests for attending and inviting guests to join "Digital 20/20: The Future is You!" (Part 2) on November 13, 2020. Click here to learn more.
